Eric Townes was born May 27, 1971 and considers himself blessed to be a lifelong resident of Media, PA. He is the proud son of Maria Townes.
Eric was educated in the Wallingford-Swarthmore school district and graduated from Strath Haven High School in 1990 and attended Cabrini College until transferring to Cheyney University two years later. His focus was in business management which prompted him to start a cleaning company to provide job opportunities for at-risk community members.
In 2010, Eric founded the non-profit organization The Unifying Group of Media (UGM), whose mission is to promote fellowship and active citizenship in Media and surrounding communities.
Eric specifically designs events to create connections between neighbors while addressing some of today’s social and political issues. One of Eric’s and UGM’s greatest successes has been its annual Unity Day held every last weekend in August. This year will mark the 10th Unity Day, which brings residents together for a weekend of fun and community building, as well as voter registration initiatives and a backpack and school supply give away. Eric and the UGM also hold other events such as their annual winter coat drive, basketball tournaments, and a harvest festival in the fall for children. Also organizing annual clothing drives for fundraising. Eric’s long-term vision for his group is to create multiple chapters throughout the Delaware Valley.
Eric has also worked along side, creating partnerships with other organizations. Rev. Mays at Second Baptist Church in Media PA, Justa Few Guyz,LLC. and the Mathis Youth Foundation. Eric has been currently working hard to extend his resources and build relationships with organizations that have the same vision.
